Improve your TDC Stereo Projection Experience with
NEW Polarizing Filters for the TDC
You are getting one pair of filters
It is very easy to replace the polarizing filters in your TDC Stereo Projector (either 116 or 716 model) with a pair of NEW filters.
    Simply
    remove the top cover
(two thumb screws on the side) and
    pull out the polarizer assembly
.  This slides in place (the metal holder on the projector goes between the two metal plates of the assembly).
With the polarizer assembly removed as shown in the pictures,
    unscrew the 4 screws
    to remove the old filters.
Place the new filters in place
.  You cannot mess this up because
they are notched and have holes
and it is impossible not to place these correctly.  Put the assembly back and you are done!
One question in many people's mind is "how do I know if I need new filters or not?"
All plastic polarizing filters deteriorate through time and under the intense heat of the light bulbs
. If you notice "ghosting" then it is possible that you need new filters (
    note
: ghosting can be caused by other factors like  the screen or the photographic emulsion of the film - ghosting means that the left eye sees part of the right image and the right eye sees part of the right image, i.e. the polarization is not good).
Here is a simple test anyone can do to test polarizing filters
    :
Cross the filter with a pair of viewing polarizing glasses
until it gets as dark as possible and look at a bright light source, such as a panel of fluorescent lights.  If the picture is overall dark (deep blue, as in the left picture above) then the filters are good.  If the picture is light then the filters are no good.  Notice that in the picture, polarization is reduced in the area heated by the light, vs. the one covered by the metal holder.
I hope you enjoy stereo projection as much as I do... I was (and still am) our stereo club's film projectionist. I started with a TDC 116 projector and later upgraded to an RBT projector. I carry a variety of projection related products in my ebay store, like glasses and other polarizing filters.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
